About the workshops

We are a community group running a variety of musical, cooking and writing workshops from the Hollingdean Community Centre (Thompson Road), every other Wednesday unless stated. All workshops are free and open to all, with suggested donation of £1.

10:45 to 11:45am · Songwriting with Nell Howe

Taking a playful approach to music – including theory and songwriting. And introducing song surgery – a chance to work on song specific niggles together.

12:00 to 1:00pm · Hollingdean Jammers with Bela Emerson

These are fun sessions where every sound is welcome. Features four different sessions in rotation: Tea and Jam, Hollingsings, Jam Band and Hollingstrings.

2:00 to 4:00pm · Poetry and Writing Group with Kat Addis and Verity Spott

We specialise in poetry but are open to all writing experiments. A relaxed and friendly space for reading and writing things together. Any, all or no experience welcome.

From 6:00 to 8:30pm on monthly Wednesdays our sister project, The World Food Project, runs Cook Around the World

Learn recipes from cooks all around the world. Join us to cook and eat together.

6:00 to 7:30pm · (5-6x per year, see calendar) · Hollingdean Folk Sessions

A fun music and dance session for all ages and abilities. Join us for simple and lovely tunes and dances, snacks, fun, and good company! All free, and all welcome.

Accessibility

The Hollingdean Community Centre is a large open space. It has double fire doors at the entrance and the back and wide corridors. It has step free access and is accessible to wheelchairs. It should be noted that the road outside the venue is on a bit of a steep curve which folks have found to be doable in power chairs but may require assistance in manual chairs. There is a disabled toilet. Unfortunately there is no mechanical hoist so assistance may be required if this is an access need.

The space itself is large and well ventilated, with large windows on three sides which we open during sessions. The space is also heated. We arrange the tables so nobody is sitting too close together, and if you prefer to sit further from the main group this is fine. The space is strip lit but we can adjust the lighting for anyone with sensory issues around bright lighting.
